I just found your blog on tag surfer - great post! I am a Christian so we may see things a little differently but I agree with almost everything you wrote here. My husband is a pastor and we are in the process of planting a church because so much of what you said here is exactly what's going on in a lot of churhces. It's sad. Churches in this country are doing more to ruin Christianity than any other religion or belief system. Just like you, I also think there are a lot of people who go to church because it's the "thing to do." It doesn't seem like that many people are going to truly worship and learn anymore. You are also right that people use religion to justify the evil that they do - it's disgusting! The shoving of religion down someone's throat amazes me. I see things like this happen and I wonder if those people truly believe they are being effective in that approach!?!? They guy you mentioned was just a jerk! Point number four is where we start to differ a little. Awful things like you mentioned do happen in this world and unfortunately there is nothing we can do to stop it. (Individually we can but not globally.) I can only speak for Christianity here since that's what I know but it doesn't promise that bad things like that won't happen. Horrible things happened to Christians (the main one being Jesus) even in the Bible. Sin is a part of this world and will be until Christ returns. You are so right in the first half of your last paragraph. People should be using their time to help others,they should be giving to charity, helping out and just making the world a better place. The last part of the last paragraph is where I think you're wrong. Jesus gave His life for us. He wants a relationship with us. It's not about a religion - that's what the Pharisees of the Bible had - it's about a relationship with Christ. When a person has that then the things you are talking about will start to take place. When you have the love of Jesus to give you can't help but want to help mankind. The people that you see like the guy in Florida aren't a good representation of Christ. In fact, nobody on earth is. Don't look to people to understand Jesus - look to the Bible. People will disappoint you every time but God will always be there for you. He's waiting with His arms opened wide! Hi!
